God works in mysterious ways

Just a short note from the weekend...

It's amazing to see how God uses any situation to speak to his sons and daughters. Charles and I have been overly blessed with the love and prayers of so many people. Today we received a reminder of all of those people who are being touched by God trough Aidan. People of all ages and situated all over the world: consacrated souls and lay peole. We feel so undeserving of this gift and don't understand why God would want to use our son. All we have to say is THANK YOU! Lord, your plans are always better than ours, there is no dout about it.

2 weeks and counting

I thought this would be the easiest way of communicating with folks rather than worrying about if I had all the right e-mail addresses each time we send out an update. Hopefully it works and I can upload some photos of the little guy here when he is born and keep everyone up to date.

To bring folks up to speed Emilia and I are expecting our first child Aidan, sometime in the next couple of weeks. At 28 weeks he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a missing corpus callosum and missing part of his vermis. Through various MRI's and ultra sounds some of the doctor's have gone back and forth on other problems he might have(or if they actually see a thin corpus callosum) but all have come to the conclusion that we really won't know until he is born and they have a chance to do a physical exam and another MRI. Luckily a lot of the other tests they have done on his heart and checking to see how the rest of his body is forming have come back great. So as for now we think the problems are just isolated to his brain.

Yesterday we had a follow-up ultra sound to check on his head size as if it gets too big it changes the mode of delivery and also the type of cut they have to make on the uterus. Emilia is 35 weeks along almost and the little guy's head measured about 9.6 cm ear to ear which is the right width for a baby that is 39-40 weeks along. His head has been about 4 weeks ahead of his body since he started to get measured so fairly neutral. Our OB gave us the choice of inducing right now and delivery the normal way with the caveat that first time mom's who are induced usually 50% of the time have to have a C section. Or waiting and measuring his head in 2 weeks and for sure having a C Section. We chose the later as it hopefully will give his lungs more time to mature. In the mean time they will be monitoring the little guy 2x a week via a stress test on his heart.

Our OB said that usually by 35 weeks the lungs were mature but it is always good to wait. In good news he is taking after his father and weighing in already at 7lbs and 5 oz(their guess from the ultra sound +-20%).

Our next ultra sound is scheduled then for Oct 9 and at that time they will have a date scheduled that week or the week after for the C Section. Exciting times.

We thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts and I look forward to keeping folks up to date in writing and by pictures.
